We have some school updates to share with families. Please be aware of the following information.
Thursday, October 20, we will be participating in the Great Shakeout event to go over earthquake preparedness as well as practice our emergency drill on campus. We will be doing this at 8:45 am. If you are on campus at that time, you will be part of the drill. It is a great opportunity for our students to know what to do in case of an emergency during school hours.
On Thursday, we will also have a minimum school day. Students will be dismissed at noon so our teachers have an opportunity to attend district professional development workshops at various school sites. Lunch for those who are ordering hot lunch will be served during the nutrition break/morning recess time. For primary, this will be at 10:00 am and for upper grades at 10:30 am. If you are going home at noon and eating lunch at that time, then you will just bring a snack as usual to eat during your morning break.
Falcon Fest will round out that evening. We hope to see our families come out for this PTA sponsored event and enjoy the music of three bands including our very own, Sean Montgomery (4th grade teacher). We appreciate your support of this community fundraising event. Please note all students must be accompanied by an adult to attend.
Monday, October 24 we will be changing the lunch time schedule for our 3rd and 4th grade classrooms. We have been monitoring the lunch schedule, collecting parent feedback and also having discussions with staff to see how we can improve the amount of time for students to eat. We have decided that we will have K-4 eat first then go to recess. The hope is that students will then have plenty of time to eat their food before returning to class. Kinder remains at 11:40-12:25 pm, 1st-2nd grade 11:45-12:30 pm and 3rd-4th grade 12:00-12:45 pm. Each grade K-4 will have a 15-20 minute lunch period before being released for recess. We hope this will remedy the concerns shared about lack of time to eat as well as returning to class late because of finishing lunches. 5th and 6th grade will remain the same as it is working as is based on teacher feedback and observations.
October 31-Masquerade Parade on the blacktop at 8:30 am. Students will come to school dressed in costume. Our PE teachers, Sarah Wade and Sheila Peterson will lead the parade. Looks to be a fun morning.
